Water resource Lab



Water Resources Lab was formerly the Department of Hydraulic Structures, which was established in October 1976 and specialized in the fields of Hydraulic Structures, Irrigation Systems and Construction Technique. The Department of Water Resources Engineering carries out the education and training at Bachelor, Master and PhD levels in the fields of water resources engineering such as hydraulic structures, hydropower, water supply and sewerage.

Laboratory of Water Resourses Engineering under the management of Department of Water Resourses Engineering has two PhD, one Master  and one Engineer. The laboratory composes eight experimental model (i.e. one water reservoir and irrigation system model; pump-turbine model; water supply sytem model; clean water treatment tank; one mini meteorology gauging station; one electrical seepage model; one Piano spillway model; one drainage and seepage tank) and hydrology and hydraulic equipments, such as global flow probe, propeller velocity flowmeter, ect.

The laboratory has a high potential in teaching, training, scientific research and technology transfer  in a variety of fields related to the water resources engineering.

The laboratory of water resourses engineering has some potential excellent experiments for undergraduate and graduate students as follows:

  1. Urban water supply system with automatical control.
  2. Electrical seepage
  3. Pump – Turbine
  4. Drainage and seepage through earth construction
  5. Velocity and flow through Piano spillway
  6. Velocity and flow of dam and irrigation system



Some typical researches which have been carried out in the labaratory can be included as follows:

  1. Evaluation and determination the water loss of dam belonged to Buôn-Kuốp hydro-power plant by using electrical seepage experiment.
  2. Measurement of flow and velocity of Piano spillway for Vĩnh Sơn 3 hydro-power plant
  3. Testing the new pump model by using wind power
  4. Study on ground water in Phan Thiet city by using 3D seepage physical model.
